Artist's Statement   Hugh Beattie is a Classic fine artist. One could describe his work as in the school of pre war, Belle-époque society portraiture. He aims to wittily inform the viewer of the character of a subject, taking the stuffy Victorian out of classic painting.
Hugh’s oil paintings are painted using traditional colours and techniques. His portraits are started and finished from life using natural light, with traditionally prepared canvases. Hugh is a fast painter, not afraid of bold thick paint, he uses slow drying oils to freely develop a rapidly unfolding picture.

Statement      Hugh can paint a head with as few as two sittings but more would consolidate the quality of the work. He can be visited in his studio, where you will be entertained in style, or he can come and paint you in situ.
He will be happy to arrange for hand crafted frames to be made for his work.
